So, the Olympics are over and we all know Canada won in hockey. Way to go Peitro and Bou! I was really hoping Sweden was going to take it, they are a very underrated team and the way Steen has been playing for us this season, he deserved it. I guess I'm bad luck because as soon as I start rooting for a team they play a terrible game. The Canada/Sweden game was not a very good game for Sweden, they couldn't hold on the puck and Lundqvist did not play how he normally plays. Cary Price on the other hand, killed it! But, I'm not going to focus on the bad, two Blues players still became gold Olympians!
I'm not even going to bring up the USA/Finland game.....
Now that we have the Olympics out of the way let's focus on getting that cup! The Blues are in Vancouver getting ready for their game on Wednesday, then they go to Anaheim to play the Ducks. Let's all pray we can finally beat the stupid Ducks!

USA/Russia
So, I finally got to see the USA/Russia game! I drove 30 minutes to my brother's house to watch it today. I am so thankful they replayed it. I didn't want to just see the shootout I wanted to see the whole thing, even though I knew what happened.
It was really heartbreaking to see my favorite player's team lose, but I was also super happy for Oshie, Backes, and Shattenkirk to win, with Oshie having the winning shot! It was a great game, but since I knew what was going to happen I didn't get super nervous/ excited like I would have if I had been watching it live.
Both goaltenders were KILLING it! They both did absolutely amazing! Bobrovsky was the goaltender for Russia and Jonathon Quick was the goaltender for USA. Bobrovsky is the goaltender for the Blue Jackets and Quick plays for the Kings. Bobrovsky saved 31 shots and Quick saved 29. I think both goalies need to be praised for the amazing job they both did.
The first goal was made for Russia in the second period by Captain Datsyuk and then Fowler made a goal for the USA in a power play. In the third Pavelski made a goal for USA and Datsyuk got his second tying the score at 2-2.
Tyutin made a goal for Russia, but after Quick called the ref over they reviewed it and waved it off because the net had been dislodged. At this point my heart was breaking for Russia because they thought they had it in the bag. There were only a little over 4 minutes left in the third period when this happened.
We all know what ended up happening, no goals in over time and we went into a long and intense shootout. Here is what happened in the shootout:
USA Russia
Oshie: Goal Malkin: Miss
Riemsdyk: Saved Datsyuk: Saved
Pavelski: Saved Kovalchuk: Goal
Oshie: Missed Kovalchuk: Saved
Oshie: Goal Datsyuk: Goal
Oshie: Goal Kovalchuk: Goal
Oshie: Missed Datsyuk: Saved
Oshie: Goal Kovalchuk: Saved
When Oshie made the winning shot, he pointed to Quick, giving him the credit for winning the game and my love for him grew even more, he is such a team player. Oshie is going to become a household name, and even non hockey fans are going to be talking about him for awhile. This is what he had to say about the shootout: "I was just thinking of something else I could do, trying to keep him guessing. Had to go back to the same move a couple a times, but I was glad it ended when it did. I was running out of moves there." (I got this from espn.com)
Side note: At one point in the game Tarasenko got hit really hard and it took him a really long time to get up. I didn't even see what happened after that, I was just waiting for him to get up, he ended getting up and being okay, thank goodness
My brother showed me this picture and my heart melted.

| This is Oshie and Tarasenko after the game. I can't even handle it! Right now in men's hockey Sweden is in first, America is in second, and Canada is in third. LGB! |

Worst Day Ever
Sooooo...I know on yesterday's post I said I was going to review a few games, but that isn't going to happen. I can't watch any USA games because we don't get the channel so I asked my brother to record the USA/Russia game because it's the USA and Tarasenko plays for Russia. Today I wake up at ten to a text from my dad that says "This is a great game!" So I got really excited to watch it and I was planning on going to watch it sometime today. I geo on Facebook and see a bunch of posts about how great the game was and that Oshie did amazing, so I got even more excited. I text my sister-in-law to find out that the DVR screwed up and it didn't record!!!! I was crushed! I went online but couldn't find it anywhere. Then I heard on the TV that it was a shootout and Oshie won it for US blah blah blah. I was so upset and I still am, but it is being shown again tomorrow so we are going to go watch it at my brother's house.
Because it was such a crappy day for me in the hockey world I decided not to review the other games today, but will tomorrow and talk about the USA/Russia game in detail.
I hope you guys got to enjoy the awesomeness and I'll be caught up tomorrow!
#TJSochi is trending, which is so clever!

Olympics
So, the Olympics are here, finally! I love the Olympics, summer and winter, but winter has something summer doesn't...HOCKEY! And this year the Blues had 10 players chosen and 9 going (poor Sobotka.) I am finding it very hard to watch the Blues players play against each other, and I'm having a hard time rooting for just one team. I know, I know, I'm American so it should be team USA all the way, BUT for some very stupid reason the USA hockey games are only being shown on NBCSN (NBC Sports Network) which is a channel that we do not get, AND all their games are at 6:00am or 6:30am so I can't just go to a friends house and use their TV for a few hours. That being said, since I can't see the USA team play I haven't been that invested in them. I watch the highlights of their games online and I hope they win, but it is different than actually watching the game live.
Yesterday I got up at 6:20 to watch Russia play Slovenia and in all honesty I thought Russia was going to crush them, which they did not. Yes, they did beat them, but it was no crushing. Russia ended up winning 5-2, but Slovenia was on their tail pretty much the whole time. In the first period Ovechkin and Malkin scored for Russia. In the second period Jeglic scored twice for Slovenia, and Kovalchuk scored for Russia. In the third period Nichuskin and Belov scored for Russia. At the end of the game Slovenia had 14 shots on goal and Russia had 35. Oh, and Russia has Tarasenko and Tereshchenko on their team, I bet that gets confusing!
I did not get to see the USA game so I watched the highlights to get this information. They distroyed Slovakia which was heart breaking because Halak was the goaltender for Slovakia, until they pulled him. In the first period Carlson scored for the US, in the second Tatar scored for Slovakia, and Kesler, Stastny (two goals), Backes, Kessel, and Brown scored for the US, and no goals in the third. Oshie and Shattenkirk also had assists in those goals! US had 33 shots on goal and Slovakia had 23.
Sweden beat Czech Republic (Sobotka's team) 4-2. I was really expecting Steen to pull a goal for SWE, but he just couldn't get one in, but he did have some assists. In the first period Karlsson and Berglund scored for SWE and Steen had one assist. In the second Zetterberg and Karlsson scored for SWE and Zidlicky and Jagr scord for the Czech Republic. And no goals were made in the third. Sweden had 25 shots on goal and Czech Republic had 29.
Canada also was not on top of their game when they went up against Norway. Just like Russia they did end up winning the game but I expected them to win with a bigger gap between the scores than 3-1. They entered the second period with a score of 0-0, but Weber and Benn ended up both scoring for Canada. In the third Doughty scored for Canada and Thoresen made a power play goal for Norway. Canada out shot Norway having 38 shots on goal and Norway having 20.
Overall the Blues' teams did great in the first set of games in the 2014 Olympics. All of their team except for Halak with Slovakia won their games. Tomorrow I will talk about Canada DESTROYING Austria, Sweden and Switzerland, USA and Russia game, and Sweden and Latvia.
Canada and Russia are the teams everyone is expecting to win gold...who do you think will win?
